What s driving India closer to Isreal

Narenda Mode has become the first sitting Indian prime minister to visit Isreal.

India has long promoted a pro-Arab agenda and downplayed relations with Israel, in fear of alienating its large Muslim population and upsetting economic ties with Arab states.

Modi’s two-day trip marks a significant warming of relations since Israel and India established full diplomatic ties 25 years ago.

Modi was welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday. The Indian leader, who met Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in New Delhi in May, will not visit Ramallah during this trip.

India is one of the world’s biggest importers of defence equipment, while Israel has become one if its largest suppliers.

What is behind this warming of relations between Israel and India?

Morocco joins the African Union after 33years

The African Union has decided to allow Morocco back into the fold after a 33-year absence, despite stiff resistance from some member states over the status of Western Sahara.

After an emotional and tense debate, member states decided by consensus to leave the question of the disputed territory of Western Sahara for another day, and resolve it with Morocco “back in the family”.

“Morocco has been admitted to join the AU with a view that it will become the 55th member of the continental body. That’s made with the understanding that Western Sahara will remain a member of the AU,” said Lamine Baali, ambassador of Western Sahara to Ethiopia and the AU.

“All the debates were focused on [the issue] that Morocco should respect the internationally recognised border of Western Sahara.”

The only African country not to belong to the AU, Morocco left its predecessor, the Organisation of African Unity, in 1984 after the body recognised the independence of Moroccan-occupied Western Sahara.

Morocco submitted its bid to rejoin last year, reportedly in the hope that being inside the AU would bring it diplomatic gains against Western Sahara’s independence movement  – the Polisario Front – and allow it to lobby against Western Sahara’s membership in the AU.

But Baali said Morocco had been re-admitted “with the understanding that Western Sahara will remain a member of the AU”.

The membership of relatively wealthy Morocco was welcomed by many members of the AU, which has been criticised for being overly dependent on non-African donor funding.

There was also some opposition from countries supporting the Polisario, observers said.

An African Union source, who followed the debate for Morocco to return to the continental body, said that 39 countries supported Morocco’s bid but nine voted against it.

Polisario leader and member of the Sawhrawi delegation Minister Mohamed Beiset told Al Jazeera that while there was a lengthy debate, “the wisdom of the African leaders made it possible to reach a consensus that was acceptable to everyone”.

The delegation decided, said Beiset, that “it was better to have Morocco inside the house, inside the family, and to try to reach African solutions to African problems”.

He congratulated Morocco for joining the AU, and said it was “a new opportunity that we should all seize in starting a … genuine dialogue between us to reach a solution to the long-standing conflict that has separated us”.

Is the African Union still relevant

The creation of the African Union (AU) began with a wave of optimism about the continent’s future.

In 1963, a group of independent African nations created the Organisation of African Unity – which later became the AU.

Its promise was to bring Africans together and propel the continent towards peaceful co-existence and growth.

The organisation now says peace and security have become more worrying than ever – and it’s working to address the issue.

While the focus of the bloc’s summit this year is Africa’s young people and their future, conflicts in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic are dominating the agenda.

Millions continue to flee from violence and natural disasters across the continent.

Poverty, the outbreak of disease and food shortages are all big issues. So, will the AU be able to address these issues?

Below are 6 things you can do when you can’t get a job in Nigeria.

Below are 6 things you can do when you can’t get a job in Nigeria.

1- Consider Unpaid Internships or Volunteer Work

It might be difficult, but if you find that you can’t get a paid full-time job, you can apply to firms for unpaid internships or NGOs for volunteer work. Companies and NGOs will most likely yield to this and offer you an internship position which can help you gain some experience rather than just sitting idle. The experience gained can then qualify you for a higher level position when you decide to end the internship and return to the job market to continue your search. In some cases, for unpaid internships, if the company is impressed with your work as an intern, they can offer you a paid and more permanent position in the firm. Internships and volunteer work are great ways to get your foot in the door at a company or firm and learn some new skills, as well as gain some experience in the process.

2- Consider Selling Crafts or Offering Your Services

If you’re a crafty person (you like to make and invent things), you can try to sell some of your crafts. There are many online platforms, as well local craft fairs, that support this and if the patronage is good, you can actually turn it into a business. The same thing also applies to services. You can try to find work doing various tasks that you are either skilled at or passionate about. If the reception is also good and patronage is reasonably high, you can begin to advertise your services and make it a business. If the business continues to do well, you can also consider searching for entrepreneurial development initiatives and apply to them to help fund and grow your business in the long run. Bank loans are also another alternative, if you prefer.

3- Network

Networking can be a bit difficult, but thankfully it can be learned and can be very useful in helping secure a job. So, do the best you can to attend events that offer networking opportunities. Work on selling yourself appropriately at these events because networking remains one of the best ways to meet new people and get new leads. Also, be sure to ‘spruce’ your online presence and ensure it is up-to-date, professional and easily accessible to recruiters and other individuals that are or could be vital to your job search.

4- Consider Other Industries

If you’ve tried and failed to find a job in the industry that you’re interested in, consider looking for jobs in other industries. It might not be exactly what you want, but it’s better than wallowing in frustration. Besides, you just might realize you actually enjoy this new career field and grow exponentially in it. You’ll never know until you give it a shot.

5- Review Your Resume

You might have made a mistake on your resume that turns recruiters off when they go through it. So, if you’re finding it hard to get a job, try reviewing your resume again. Check your resume for correct grammar and spelling, emphasize the results you achieved in your previous jobs, not just the activities you carried out, and write better cover letters. In addition, when you are eventually called in for an interview, learn to practice interviewing, research well about the company and be prepared to answer any question. Find ways to project confidence during interviews and to properly deal with instances where you might not know the answer to a question asked. Finally, just be positive, don’t let your frustrations come through and don’t undersell yourself – boldly state your accomplishment regardless of how small you think they are and give them good reasons why you’re the best fit for the job.

6- Don’t Stop Applying For Jobs

It might be frustrating but once you have reviewed your resume and you’re good to go, you should continue with your job applications. The best thing you can do to survive a period of unemployment is to apply for as many jobs as you can, and apply for them as well as you can. You can also consider applying for lower paying jobs in the meantime, just to get some money to help put food on your table until you have a breakthrough with the caliber of jobs you desire.

I made more money when i was fat than now says popular comedienne,Lepacious Bose

A popular comedienne, Lepacious Bose, on Saturday said she made more money when she was overweight than when she became slim. Bose said this at a news conference in Lagos.

I was obese for 25-years. I was never happy being fat and I had health challenges like my thyroids were aggravating, I was depressed, for two years I was not menstruating. I was so emotional and each time I visited the hospital, they will ask me to go and lose weight.

Though, I was making a lot of money because it was easy cracking jokes about my being fat. Now that I am slimming down, I do not make so much money anymore.

Above all, my weight loss has been an incredible journey and I am proud of the progress I have made and I don’t intend to stop.

I am also proud of the fact that my weight loss is an inspiration to others. I am happier, healthier and more confident. Presently, I am now a size 16. Two years ago, I was obese with a weight of 198kg.”
